FABULOUS FRIDAY FEATURE

I'm so sorry this is going up a touch late - I was in the mountains for a few days with my partner's family. I had so much fun finding features for this week! If you've got someone you think should be featured in next Friday's Feature, send me a note with a link to their gallery and I'll take a peek ;) I'd also love to hear about other features, particularly themed ones. I'll list those in the bottom section to help spread the word! The same goes for contests or news articles!

The concept for this week's feature is fables and fairytales. Though not all of these are necessarily references to some kind of fable, they all made me think of ones or about writing new ones :) There are some real gems here on deviantART. Let me know what your favorite kind of fable is on my poll! azizriandaoxrak.deviantart.com…

Please favorite this journal and pass it on! And if you liked this feature, be sure to check out the one from last week: fav.me/d5l8y9v

Finally (and then I promise I'll actually get to the features ;) ), I am ALWAYS seeking donations and nominations for my new pay it forward project! Last week I was able to donate a three-month membership to the fabulous kinachuku, and I'm only a few hundred points away from being able to give away another one! I want to be able to donate premium memberships to deserving members, so please check out my journal for info on sending nominations:
Pay-It-Forward Project:new:Update: Unfortunately, due to a number of factors, I will not be continuing this project. However, I strongly encourage you all to pay it forward yourselves!

Deviants so far who have received premium memberships as part of this project:

Thank you sososososo much to namenotrequired for helping me to promote this project!
Greetings! I am posting this to let you all know I have decided I want to try to pay the premium membership love forward, and so I am looking for donations to go toward buying premium memberships for other people :) You can find the donation box on my front page. PLEASE DONATE! I'll need lots of help - all contributions are appreciated, no matter how small :)
That's part one, here's part two:
I'm seeking nominations for extra-special deviants, especially those who are really involved in the community, who don't already have a premium membersh

And now, without any further ado: THE FEATURES!

:thumb198918715: The ChangeMiss Basildon liked us.  Our parents often let her baby-sit, but they didn't bother telling her where they were going.  Before she arrived, they'd write down all the important phone numbers and give them to Anne.
I was the fourth child, so Miss Basildon had been coming since before I could remember.  Anne and Lucy told me that she used to lean over my cot, fondling my hands and saying, 'Such sharp little fingers.'  Joseph joined them in telling me how she used to pull down my lip with her forefinger and say, 'Such pointed little teeth.'  I remember well how she used to run her fingers through my hair and say, 'It grows like ivy, doesn't it, dear?'
I started to avoid her when she came to baby-sit.  As there were so many of us, it was easy to get lost.  Miss Basildon was happy to read stories to Molly, or to lean over Daniel's cot and cluck.  Once, Anne caught me watching her from the doorway, and she said, '
1.- As White As SnowThe sigh weighs heavily on his shoulders, and bends his back. It is the soul of this tall, blond man that seeks to drag his large and fibrous body with it in its terrible free fall. He is there, his fixed gaze full of pain and death. With the palms of his hands, he gives a trembling caress to the delicate feet of the girl. They are so cold ...
In that accursed burial chamber the only thing that beats is his own heart, though broken. His alone is still beating, wildly spilling blood all through his body, with fast and accurate hits.
"Everything... You have taken everything with you, your life and mine. You have left me with nothing." His faint whisper echoes through the burial chamber.
He observes the vivid image with pain deeply rooted in his eyes. The woman's dead body on the bed of furs that he has carefully prepared. It was so cold when he took her from the crystal casket, he had the impression that the glassy coffin had adhered to her skin.
He now looks at her hair, a black clouds

SkinI
She wants her skin back, her wrinkled rough rhino skin,
not this skin so fragile and tight.
She wants transformation, water hardening into ice,
the pale brittle blue of a girl's mouth.
She is so cold, she wants grasses brimming with heat.
Her horn would shatter the frozen lake, shivering with cracks.
Another girl stares at her arm spider webbed with cuts,
the razor once moon cold now warm with blood,
pain so deeply buried blooms like red poppies.
She shudders. She is so cold. This blood did not taste like wine.
But it was warm on her tongue.
Even with twenty mattresses fat with swan feathers,
the princess felt the pebble, bruises surfacing
like a body when the ice finally melts.
So the princess drinks wine ember red until she free falls into sleep,
and dreams she is not a princess,
pain fading like cloth left too long in the light.

The Mating Season
The copse was luminous and inviting.
Balmy winds shifted and the leaves swirled in tuneful coils.
He crushed the vivid ambers and yellows with grimy boots;
Feet scuffing the supple earth with each enthralled step.
She inhaled a surging gust
and spread her arms in temptation.
Her warm breeze thrust him in
and he clung to her, obsessed.
Undeniably beautiful was she, that he didn't comprehend
the brambles that curled around her legs
and the twigs that rose in the deep red of her verdant hair.
Her lips were soft and her touch bewitching,
like the undisturbed soil next to a water's edge.
That's where he laid her down
and took all that could be given.
Through slumber he was not aware what soon would be returned.
Damp mists and darkness engulfed the quieted creek;
the ambers had drained and washed away the essence of the marsh.
Cold awoke all visitors - disenchanted.
Gales were silenced and the darkness moved only for one sound;

The Tortoise and the HareI made friends with the tortoise in my head, once. He was a quiet being. Always a "how-do-you-do" and a "good morning", but these days never good for much else. He says he always got his mail delivered to the wrong place. That or it didn't have enough postage or it found its way to the drain on the street corner.
He liked to tell me stories about a friend he had back in Animal Elementary – back when they learned how to fend for themselves, hide from predators and all that. They never had maths but they did have ruminations. He tried to explain ruminations to me once but to this day, for the life of me, I still have no idea what it means.
I remember thinking that I liked how he polished his shell everyday; that his place was small and tidy, like the inside of a mother's body. He'd always stare at me, all thoughtful and quiet as I studied his paintings and his work. The tortoise is a very good artist.
There was one story in particular he liked to tell me, with that friend from the E

the driftwood girlonce upon a time, there was a little girl that everybody loved. she had these big old dishwater eyes that, if turned the right way, could reflect the lapping green silence of the ocean tides pulling seaweed on and off the shore. her hair was a raggedy mess once when she was small---long and matted with beachsand and birchwood, and one day she just took a claw to it and offoffoff it went. this exposed her pixie-ears and sunken collarbones, and while all the women of the island wore their hair below their ribs in hopes it would frenzy and tangle and catch the sweetness of the air, her choppedofflocks gave her the face of a child and served to endear everybody to her.
the girl grew up thinking she was ugly; clamlike, gritty, a barnacle too attached to its home and destined to be scraped off to float away in the water. all the little boys would laugh and prod her skinny frame, would pull her choppy curls. often, this would cause her to flush in a deep deep shame and hide away in a sheltere

Holiday Card Project 2012
It's back!  With the goal of bringing a little cheer to patients in the hospital during the holiday season, the deviantART Holiday Card Project connects deviants from around the world and applies their tremendous artistic abilities in designing and creating uplifting holiday cards.
In past years, the Project has received more than 5,000 cards sent in by more than 1,000 deviants from 50 different countries/political regions. Cards were then divvied up and distributed in-person by deviantART members to local Los Angeles, CA hospitals, with additional cards given to various hospitals in the U.S. and abroad for hospital staff members to hand out to patients.
The idea behind the Holiday Card Project is simple: do something nice for others. However, if you're looking for even more incentive, every deviant who submits a card will be given a free one-month Premium Membership to deviant

W-W Presents: De-Cliche Your Romance!I had a lot of fun with the Halloween contest Workshop, and I think we got a lot of good critiques in; so, huzzah! But now this train is back on its usual track.
Before we start in on this much-anticipated workshop (most highly-voted in our previous poll), I'm going to put a quick word out about our current status: tromacom, Shuriken95, and I have been running this on our own for the past few months, (with BeccaJS having had her baby :aww:) and we'd love some workshop host volunteers! So if anyone has an idea for a workshop, send it in a note, and we'll try to get you all set up to host. :D

Reasons to Love dA's Lit Community: Part 2This is the second half of my Reasons to Love dA's Literature Community. If you have no idea what is going on this explains it a bit more. ♥
:heart:Reasons to Love dA's Lit Community: Part 1:heart:
I love the literature community because it helps my writing and I also love to read what other people write and the ideas they come up with.
I love the literature community here on dA for various reasons, and one is that they are always supportive when you need some support or help. They always seem to be willing to give advice when it is asked for, or to just talk literature in often. Literature is one of the most powerful forms of art with the capability to shape the world and our cultures as we know it. Even
