Greetings, all, and welcome to my tenth

:icontree4plz:FABULOUS FRIDAY FEATURE:icontree4plz:

This week's theme is, of course (it's that time of year, after all ;) ) WINTER! In the next feature, I'd like to feature pieces to do with the people, landscapes, and religions of India. If you've got someone you think should be featured in next Friday's Feature, send me a note with a link to their gallery and I'll take a peek ;) I'd also love to hear about other features, particularly themed ones. I'll list those in the bottom section to help spread the word! The same goes for contests or news articles!

Please favorite this journal and pass it on! And if you liked this feature, be sure to check out the one from last week:…

I am ALWAYS seeking donations and nominations for my pay-it-forward project! So far I've been able to donate two premium memberships, and I'm only a few hundred points away from being able to give away another one! I want to be able to donate premium memberships to deserving members, so please check out my journal for info on sending nominations:
Pay-It-Forward Project:new:Update: Unfortunately, due to a number of factors, I will not be continuing this project. However, I strongly encourage you all to pay it forward yourselves!

Deviants so far who have received premium memberships as part of this project:

Thank you sososososo much to namenotrequired for helping me to promote this project!
Greetings! I am posting this to let you all know I have decided I want to try to pay the premium membership love forward, and so I am looking for donations to go toward buying premium memberships for other people :) You can find the donation box on my front page. PLEASE DONATE! I'll need lots of help - all contributions are appreciated, no matter how small :)
That's part one, here's part two:
I'm seeking nominations for extra-special deviants, especially those who are really involved in the community, who don't already have a premium membersh

And now, without any further ado: THE FEATURES!

I love the way we looked at the airport,
identical in height, your baggage
split between us as we walked to your plane.
I must have looked like I was going with you,
toward some happiness.
A few hours ago, I was
and so were you.  Traveling
by kisses. Arriving and arriving.
Soon you'll see snow
banked in the corners of the fields below
like envelopes I'll send you
without return address.
You'll recognize me there
the way you did when we first met.
You said we must have known each other
from another life--
                         Now I've come to see
it was a future life, prefigured
as this landscape I'm driving back into:
Dark gnaws at the farmhouses.
Inside, the ignorant lights have climbed upstairs
where they burn like smudgepots
through the snowy drapes of private rooms...
By now you must be landing
WinterHer cold hands trace the lands spreading pallor;
In their wake, antique lace of crystal ice-
Scrimshaw tracery of pale frost flowers;
Tears a fickle flurry from fragile skies-
But bitter is her wintered breath the wind,
And ghostly the sound of its satin sighs;
Blue-veined deep the frozen lake of her skin;
Her voice a swansong of icicle lies-
Skeletal spine studded with evergreen-
The sheen of her shimmering white-wove veil
Crowned with holly bush and poinsettia leaf;
Her eyes drowning blue, her skin ghostly pale.
freeze those apple faces.november means the start of a new year because that's when the frost settles in and it sort of numbs everything away. i don't have red cheeks because the genes for that apple face disorder runs in me, but rather cuz i like that tingly feeling you get when you've been out in the cold for a bit too long.
so by the time thanksgiving passes by, i'm not so awake anymore and neither is my cerebral cortex which presumably {noun ( pl. -bra |-brə|) Anatomy-  is responsible for the higher brain functions, as voluntary movement, coordination of sensory information, learning and memory, and the expression of individuality.} i get plenty of sleep but the school thinks i'm on weed or something since i don't like to move so much. i can't tell apart jack and jill or violet and kate so the way he kisses me doesn't seem much different to the way jake hooked up with me last something week.
and i can't smell his cologne anymore.
ColdTrace curls and flourishes
of hoar-frost over my skin.
Unzip me with icicle fingers and
                                                            bury frostbite beneath my bones.
Exhale your sweet nothings into
shivering clouds of cirrus breath.
winternovember was a murmur
that just made words
december was _______ at all
january brings news of snow
but winter you're too late
too sweet
we're cold already
this is the winter of
Bitter Blue WinterBitter, blue sorrow,
Cold, crisp winter
And locked doors,
Frost frozen to the frames.
Bleak, stark pathways,
Bare, December trees,
All sitting
Along the road where we stand freezing.
Eerie, barren silence,
Whistling, howling wind,
Mosaics, and rips
Of gray, just shades buried in the white.
Rising, calming, peace,
Shivering, chattering bones,
And the hollow sound of the wind
keeps singing of better time.
Winter KissMany solemn years ago
In midst of frost and powdered snow
Down curving path he walks his lonesome
In this chaste and still December
Deep within the shaded grove
Each singing bird a treasure trove
Behind a tree of elder years
Like faerie dust, a dainty whisper
Moves like summer, sings like rain
Maiden fair of midnight mane
Spinning 'round in blissful union
Upon his lips a winter kiss
Evergreen needles brush porcelain skin
Losing himself in her delicious sin
The shrieking wind then takes her leave
His lionheart skips beat to empty
Gentle crunch of fallen leaf
Hangs his head to hide his grief
Seasoned mind and homeward bound
In this chaste and still December

Holiday Card Project 2012
It's back!  With the goal of bringing a little cheer to patients in the hospital during the holiday season, the deviantART Holiday Card Project connects deviants from around the world and applies their tremendous artistic abilities in designing and creating uplifting holiday cards.
In past years, the Project has received more than 5,000 cards sent in by more than 1,000 deviants from 50 different countries/political regions. Cards were then divvied up and distributed in-person by deviantART members to local Los Angeles, CA hospitals, with additional cards given to various hospitals in the U.S. and abroad for hospital staff members to hand out to patients.
The idea behind the Holiday Card Project is simple: do something nice for others. However, if you're looking for even more incentive, every deviant who submits a card will be given a free one-month Premium Membership to deviantA

Why you feature stolen work?!?!Lately there seem to have been a few myths flying around in particular with regards to how we as Community Volunteers, give Daily Deviations. Many people seem to think that we sit at our desks in dark little rooms and let out evil laughter whilst we purposefully feature stolen work. The dark rooms and laughter - well I can't say yes or no on that one! But I can promise you it's not our intent to give exposure to people who have stolen work. I recently featured a piece of work that turned out to be stolen. However I went into extensive conversations with the artist before I featured it, and with added metadata and dates, it's difficult to know where to draw the line. I've given people the benefit of the doubt before - and it's worked out nicely as their work has been legitimate. Below are some comments I have seen being thrown around the past few days - and hopefully an attempt to bust the myth.
"I thought at least that you people would check to make sure the work was the

"Cup met saucer with a slight clatter. Hands trembling again, Moira set the tea aside on the coffee table in front of her then reached for her purse. It had wedged a little into a corner of the sofa and she had to tug at the strap a little to get it clear. He knew about the crayon. Oh God. Oh God. No one knew about the crayon. Jess was right. He was the real deal! Hope soared in her breast, made her heart thump painfully. She fumbled with the clasp, fished the treasured possession from its nest of soft tissue and handed it to him."

December Prompt - Homophones and You!Hi, there! Welcome to the second month of my monthly-prompts attempt! Last month, we only had one submission to the prompt (can't remember what the prompt was? See here:, but I have NO qualms about featuring chapaV's GORGEOUS "From the Informal Dictionary of ELA Amendments" as December's Poem of the Month! Don't forget, the folder is still open to pieces based on that particular prompt, but those pieces will not be eligible for a future Poem of the Month.
If you'd like to see some more prompts, don't forget about the group blog of collected prompts:
ANYWAY, here comes the prompt for next month!

A New Year's Contest
The Mayan calendar finishes one of its great cycles in December 2012, which has fueled countless theories about the end of the world on December 21, 2012 at 11:11(UTC).
End of days? Will the world keep spinning after the Mayan Calendar ends? Most likely.
Another year has come and gone carrying along with it the bludgeoning weight of not only our regrets, failures and disappointments, but also our wishes, achievement
