FABULOUS FRIDAY FEATURE

If you've got someone you think should be featured in next Friday's Feature, I AM EVEN MORE DESPERATE FOR YOUR SUGGESTIONS, and I'd love it if you would send me a note with a link to the deviation in question and I'll take a peek ;) I'd also love to hear about other features, particularly themed ones. I'll list those in the bottom section to help spread the word! The same goes for contests or news articles!

Please favorite this journal and pass it on! And if you liked this feature, be sure to check out the one from last week: azizriandaoxrak.deviantart.com…

I am ALWAYS seeking donations and nominations for my pay-it-forward project! So far I've been able to donate four premium memberships, and I'm only a few hundred points away from being able to give away another one! I want to be able to donate premium memberships to deserving members, so please check out my journal for info on sending nominations: azizriandaoxrak.deviantart.com…

ALSO, my dear friend angeljunkie is raising funds to renew lacoterie's supergroup submission and would be grateful for any donations! Please consider just donating a point or two to help! Please check out the donation box on his front page.

And now, without any further ado: THE FEATURES!

you were my eulogyi wasn't allowed at the funeral.
i wasn't allowed at your funeral.
even though i had held your hand as your breath rattled in your perforated chest, as you laboured to keep your lungs working, as you tried to seek my eyes from behind the haze that was already clouding yours. even though i loved you, i was not enough to keep you with me, i was never enough to make them see that we could be perfect.
they didn't let me into your hospital room either, because i wasn't your family, even though i had been all you had during the nights you didn't even know who you were anymore, even though you had been all i had during the days i craved for the pain. even though we had been together for six years and had a fall wedding planned.
your parents came to tell me to stay away from your funeral, your mother crying as if her heart was the only one that was broken, your father looking at me as if blaming me for corrupting their only daughter, as if i had been the one to pull the trigger of the g

--M.S.
1.
on bad days i take it out somewhere nice,
i eat for two
while it watches the candles burn.
i do all the drinking. even though it's wine-colored,
and it knows what the evening costs me, it just watches
the tulip of its glass flicker.
2.
sometimes i wrap it up
in dark crepe for an afternoon and let it fall asleep
with the radio buzzing peaceably
between stations,
or i walk it through the park
with it in the crook of my arms,
wandering between bird-sounds,
sitting near the duck-pond.
or i take it to the theater
where it can smell butter
and watch the backs of people's heads
while the movie washes its noisy blue waves over them.
3.
my heart floats
if i let it.
it splashes in the tub
like a dirty child, the small window open,
letting the smell of trees in.
at the bases of waterfalls
(because i carry it through into my dreams)
it floats on its back with its ears underwater
and watches strange birds disappear over enormous, blue-purple trees.
4.
:thumb276854256: FrostI am devouring chaos,
chasing it down with winter's chill.
Spare me your fingerprints,
summer's lovechild.  Those knowing owl eyes
have me second guessing the wild churning
in my bones. You are the sleep that sweeps
my eyelashes, drowning me in my own daydreams.
When was it...
that you plastered yourself to my ribcage?

Tips from Talented RhymersRhyming shouldn't be stigmatized over poor examples or be embraced as the only poetic form available to the writer due to the many classical examples from centuries before. It should be used if the writer is comfortable with it, or it is a part of how they write, or what they are writing calls for rhyming. The writers below are all talented at their craft and have generously accepted to contribute to the article.

What is your opinion on rhyming literature on deviantART?
Traditionally fixed literature in any place (not strictly deviantArt), can seem either very natural and effortless, or very forced. Although free verse tends to be significantly more popular here, there's something in a rhythmic poem that free verse does not always capture. Just like word choice or metaphors, the melody of a poem also helps in the telling of the story.
